I am finally getting around to share the drugstore haul from my recent New York visit! I went with a list as long as my arm, but we were significantly more busy than I anticipated and I didn’t have as much time to browse every drugstore. Luckily for me our accommodation in Greenwich Village was right opposite a 24-hour CVS pharmacy and I did quite a few middle of the night trips (thank you, jet lag!) I didn’t get everything on my list, but I am still super excited for the items I ended up buying. I am really looking forward to start testing them and give some feedback as to my thoughts.
Many of the products are available in South Africa and here in the Netherlands where I stay, but I found a lot of these items were just significantly cheaper in the US and well, I am not going to say ‘no’ if I can save a bit of money. Most of these items are not new releases, but I have stopped chasing ‘new’ items a long time ago. You will go crazy if you try to keep up with all the new releases in the beauty world. If something appeals to me, I will buy it regardless of it being a new release or not.
Wet n Wild Mega Cushion Contour
The packaging got a little bit damaged in transit, but I think it is so cute and this product intrigued me from the start when I saw it on Wet ‘n Wild’s Facebook page a while ago. I haven’t tried it yet or read any reviews on the product, so I have no idea what I am in for! Hopefully it is a goody!
Wet n Wild Photofocus Eyeshadow Primer
Staying with Wet n Wild, I wanted to try this eyeshadow primer for the longest time! It is not a new product and I can get it here in the Netherlands, but it was so much cheaper in the US so I decided to wait instead. From the many reviews I’ve seen this product has been named a dupe for my beloved Urban Decay Primer Potion (you can read my review here), so I am excited to see if it lives up to the hype and if it is in fact a dupe.
Physicians Formula Murumuru Butter Bronzer
I just had to buy the Physicians Formula Murumuru Butter Bronzer! I am sure you have all seen the many rave reviews on this product and heard the good news that it will be available in South Africa in December! Woohoo! I cannot wait to start playing around with it. Rayne from Make It Rayne recently wrote a review on this product if you are curious – you can click here.
ELF Hydrating Face Primer
I had plenty more ELF products on my shopping list, but in the end I only bought this hydrating face primer. The drugstores I visited was unfortunately poorly stocked and I just didn’t have the time to run from drugstore to drugstore. I’ve tried this primer once and didn’t like it too much, but I will play around with it a bit more before making up my mind.
Maybelline The Colossal Big Shot Volume Express Mascara
I wasn’t really in the market for a new mascara as I already have so many on the to-be-tested list in my beauty drawer, but this ended up in my basket while on one of my jetlag midnight shopping escapades. I absolutely love the Maybelline Lash Sensational mascara (you can read my full review here), so have high hopes for this one too.
Maybelline Master Prime Primer Base
I bought this for no other reason than me having a primer problem (like my concealer problem!) I still have not find a drugstore primer that can truly compete with my favourite higher-end primers in terms of pore reduction, so I will continue to try as many primers as possible in the hope of finding one.
Maybelline Master Conceal Camouflaging Concealer
I bough this concealer purely because of Leigh from Lipgloss Is My Life. She recently picked it up in Thailand and loved it. So of course I am going to put this item in my basket – I am like her biggest fan! Adding to this that I have a concealer obsession and will not pass on an opportunity to try a new one. If you would like to read Leigh’s review so long, click here.
Milani Make It Last Setting Spray
I really enjoy Kathleen Lights’ videos and as she has a similar skintype and preferences to mine, most of her recommendations end up on my shopping list. She recommended the Milani Make It Last Setting Spray in one of her drugstore haul or first impressions videos and as Milani products are now available in SA (via their website, you can click ….. to have a look) I was keen to give it a go and see if it is worth purchasing. It is no secret that I have issues with setting sprays in general and the only one I have liked (it is more that like, it’s LOVE!) to date is the Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray. I have done a full review on this product that you can read here if you would like to know more.
Milani Powder Blush
Another Kathleen Lights’ recommendation and can we please just have a minute for the incredible beauty of this product? I cannot wait to start playing around with it.
Milani Eyeshadow Primer
I think I saw this somewhere in a favourites video of a YouTuber, but I cannot for the life of me remember who. Nevertheless, I am curious as to how it will perform compared to Wet ‘n Wild and Urban Decay’s eyeshadow primers.
L’Oréal True Match Lumi Cushion Luminous Foundation
This can definitely no longer be considered as a new product, but I was still curious as to if it really lives up to the hype. When I saw it was once again so much cheaper than what I would pay at my local drugstore, I just couldn’t say no. If you have tried this foundation before I would love to know about your experience.
L’Oréal Lash Paradise Mascara
If you missed my review (click here) I can highly recommend giving it a quick read. This is honestly the best mascara I have tried to date and I stocked up properly (I bought significantly more units than just the two in the picture). I popped the waterproof version in my basket as well. I am not a massive fan of waterproof mascaras in general, but seeing how much I love the original version I was keen to see if the waterproof mascara is as good.
Soap & Glory Sugar Crush Body Wash
This glorious body wash from Soap & Glory was a repurchase. I absolutely love the delicious citrus scent and this is one of my all time favourite body washes. I should probably do a proper review on this product as it is a must-have to put on your wishlist if you happen to go overseas.
Soap & Glory Hand Food Non-Greasy Hydrating Hand Cream
Lastly I picked up the Soap & Glory Hand Food Non-Greasy Hydrating Hand Cream. I have not tried this hand cream before. I sadly ran out of my beloved Sorbet Hydrating Hand Cream and was in the market for a replacement. I also picked up a few Bath & Bodyworks hand creams to hopefully keep my hands nourished this winter.
I will be putting up my Sephora haul next week Friday, so be sure to pop buy if you would like to see what I bought
