I’ve been going through my (over the top!) makeup stash lately to see if I can streamline it in any way (it was not too successful…) While going through all my makeup bits I came across a few of my staples which I have never featured on the blog. So eventhough the Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion is an oldie, it’s so good that it definitely deserves a spot on my blog.
Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion
Packaging: The Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion has beautiful, good quality, compact packaging. The tube is small and easy to pop into your makeup bag. It has an elongated doe-foot applicator. I am not crazy about the applicator, it’s quite hard and I struggle to transfer the product directly from the spongy part to my lids. I find depositing the product on the back of my hand and then use fingers to apply and blend the primer work the best.
Formula: The primer has a smooth, creamy, silky feel that blends easily on the lids. Once applied it doesn’t feel heavy, sticky or overly ‘silicon-y’ on the lids.
Why would one use an eyeshadow primer? An eyeshadow primer creates a smooth canvas on your eyelids to enhance eyeshadow pigmentation, prevent product creasing and makes your shadows last longer on the lids. It is essential to prime the skin prior to eyeshadow application if you have oilier eyelids. The Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion does all of the above brilliantly and I would not even consider applying eyeshadow without it.
Shades: There are currently 6 shades available in the Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion range. I have tried Sin and Eden before but I keep going back to the original. The original is basically a soft beige shade that blends into my natural lid color which I prefer. If you want to have a look at the shade range you can click here. They even have a vegan and anti-aging option available.
Price: From €14.50/R320.
Stockist: In South Africa this product is available through Foschini’s online store (they appear to be out of stock at the moment) or at the stores in Sandton City, Eastgate Mall and soon to be Menlyn Mall. You can click here to go to the Foschini online store. Urban Decay is readily available throughout Europe from nearly all the department stores, Sephora, Douglas, ICI Paris XL etc.
What did I think? Well, I absolutely love the Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion. It just makes my eyeshadows pop a bit more and I never get that dreaded creasing during the day even when I use cream shadows. I find the product to be long lasting and it has become a staple in my makeup bag. I have tried many eyeshadow primers before from various brands and none could quite beat this eyeshadow base. Eventhough this eyeshadow primer is a little bit more expensive it is just so worth it in my opinion. I have read reviews that the Wet&Wild Photo Focus eyeshadow primer is a dupe for the Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion, but I haven’t tried it yet and thus cannot comment on it. Seeing that I would be a lousy beauty blogger if I didn’t try it I have ordered the Wet&Wild eyeshadow base and will give feedback once I’ve tested it properly.
Will I buy this product again? Absolutely! I think I am on my third or fourth tube already
