This is the last post for 2017! I know it is such a cliche, but I can honestly not believe what a whirlwind year it has been and how quickly it flew past. 2017 was a big year in terms of personal development for me, we travelled a lot, my blog grew significantly, great things happened for which I am eternally grateful and a few baddies in between of course, just to keep the balance
As I am typing this blogpost snow is falling outside, I have a mug of hot chocolate next to me and my (very first REAL!) Christmas tree is sparkling in all its glory. The holidays are truly the most wonderful time of the year! May you and your family have a wonderful festive season. Thank you to all my dear readers and fellow blogger friends for your loyal support throughout the past year. Here is to looking forward to a blessed 2018!
On a beauty note and to end the year off properly, I wanted to do a quick recap of the best ‘new-to-me’ products I have tested in 2017 and really loved. If you have any recommendations or must-haves for me to try in 2018 please let me know in the comments or on social media. I am going to take a little break from today until the beginning of January as we are having family over for their very first European Christmas and I think it is going to be a little crazy from now on. Let’s have a look at my favourite products for 2017!
Benefit Ka-Brow! Cream-Gel Eyebrow Colour
The Benefit Ka-Brow! grew so much on me in the last year that I reach for it more often nowadays than my beloved holy-grail Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade. I know, gasp! This little pot is pure eyebrow magic and will transform your brows into polished perfection with minimal time and skill required. The shade range is pretty good and without the pesky red-undertone most other brands have. I think this brow pomade is worth every penny and will make you life so much easier. You will never want to use anything else again! You can read my review on the Benefit Ka-Brow! here and the ABH Dipbrow Pomade here.
Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless Foundation
This foundation blew me completely out of the water! For some reason I didn’t have any major expectations and then WOW! I loved the Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless foundation although this also seems to be a ‘hit & miss’ product. I wrote a detailed post also featuring my guest blogger’s review. She has oily, sensitive skin and had the complete opposite experience from mine. If you missed the review you can catch up here. I already repurchased the product and will continue to do so.
Elizabeth Arden Plush Up Lip Gelato
I almost didn’t want to include the Elizabeth Arden Plush Up Lip Gelato as I haven’t done a full review yet and have only been using it for a few weeks. I will hopefully get to it early in 2018, but it is just so good and I cannot pass on the opportunity to tell my readers about this product. As I have mentioned numerous time in the past few months I am completely over matte lip products and all I am looking for now is juicy, balmy, shiny lips. My makeup has moved dramatically towards simplicity and minimalism the past year and 9/10 times I would opt for a very understated natural look. This is wear the Elizabeth Arden Plush Up Lip Gelato slots in perfectly. It is so comfortable to wear, it’s juicy and delicious and the shades are beautiful! I will do a full review later, but in the meantime, have a look at these lippies when you are at a department store again.
L’Oréal Lash Paradise Mascara
What more can I say about this spectacular, amazing, incredible mascara?! I think I will vote this as product of the year and definitely the best new discovery for me in 2017. You can read my full review here. As far as I know this mascara is sadly not available in South Africa as yet, but hopefully it will be soon. It’s going to be such a hit!
Essence Luminous Matt Bronzing Powder
Essence did an excellent job this year in terms of new releases! I was so impressed and pleased with the Luminous Matt Bronzing Powder; from the beautiful packaging to the product itself. I rarely use any other bronzing products or even look at them in the shops as I am so dead set on my holy grail bronzer: the Benefit Hoola Bronzer. This little guy from Essence however changed my mind and I loved it! You can read my full review here. If you have very fair skin and always find bronzers too orange and muddy for your skintone, then I highly recommend you have a look at this product.
Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm
The Clinique Take The Balm Off Cleansing Balm has made my life so much easier! There is not a single product I own or have every tried that makes removing makeup, and mascara especially, such a pleasure and as easy as it is with this gem from Clinique. This cleansing balm is absolutely brilliant and I have already repurchased! You can read my full review here.
Catrice Re-Touch Light Reflecting Concealer
I was tremendously upset when I visited Sephora in New York during September and discovered my beloved Smoothing and Brightening concealer was not in stock. Luckily for me I discovered the Catrice Re-Touch Light Reflecting Concealer earlier in the year and it is nearly an exact dupe. I love both these concealers equally as they are amazing for a drier under-eye area with its infused hyaluronic acid and this concealer does not crease! Not even the slightest bit and no need to set with powder either. The only downside is that it has light to medium coverage and will thus not work for readers with severe pigmentation and dark circles. You can read my review on this concealer here.
Zoeva Caramel Melange Eyeshadow Palette
It’s no secret that I am a huge fan of The Anna Edit’s blog and YouTube channel and she is a big fan of the Zoeva eyeshadow palettes. Zoeva really has amazing and super affordable makeup products and brushes. I loved this eyeshadow palette and has taken it with on nearly all my travels this year. You can read my full review here.
Essence Matt Matt Matt Lipsticks
I know I mentioned earlier in this post that I am so over matte lip products and I really am, but I still have to mention the Essence Matt Matt Matt Lipsticks. I have tried many matte products this year (who hasn’t?!), but these matte lipsticks really are the only ones I am still using. They are comfortable to wear, the shades are so beautiful, I love the berry fragrance and I think the packaging is really pretty. If you missed the review you can catch up here
Chanel Gabrielle EDP
Last, but not least! I have mentioned a few times on the blog and social media how absolutely delicious this new fragrance from Chanel is. If you haven’t given it a sniff yet, be sure to stop by a Chanel counter when you have the chance. You will not be sorry!
