This is an oldie, but such a goodie that I just had to feature it on the blog! Introducing my holy-grail highlighter: The Balm Mary Lou Manizer. I am often asked what highlighter I am wearing and without fail I can answer that it is this little gem. Let’s have a look at its features.
The Balm Mary Lou Manizer
Product: The Balm Mary Lou Manizer is a subtle, yet striking highlighting product that adds a beautiful sheen to your features. When applied to the cheekbones, nose and cupid’s bow it completes your makeup and gives you a refreshed, healthy yet natural glow. This product also doubles up nicely as a shimmer eyeshadow.
Packaging: You cannot possibly tell me that this is not the cutest packaging you have ever seen! I love The Balm’s quirky take on their iconic packaging. Apart from it being super cute, the packaging is also good quality and very sturdy. Mine has survived the rollercoaster that is my handbag and it is still in tip-top condition. I really like the mirror on the inside the compact and often use it when I travel to do my makeup.
Pigmentation: The Balm Mary Lou Manizer is very well pigmented, yet when it is applied is has a subtle, natural finish. I personally prefer natural-looking highlighters as opposed to the blinding-effect products that are so popular at the moment. The highlighter is not powdery at all, in fact, it is quite buttery. It has very fine particles and does not have any large, obvious glitter chunks.
Shade: In the compact the product has a honey hue, but when applied to the skin it has a soft champagne shade which is perfect for fairer skin.
Finish: As mentioned above it adds a subtle, natural, healthy glow to your skin. Due to the quality and fineness of the product I don’t find that is prominently emphasizes the appearance of pores, which is often a concern with highlighting products.
Wear: The longevity of a highlighter is not something that is often mentioned, but I can say that The Balm Mary Lou Manizer lasts throughout the day and does not move your foundation around when applied.
Stockist: It is easily available throughout Europe at most department stores. I have looked at the stockists in South Africa: Retail Box used to stock it, but at the moment I cannot see it on their website so I think they could possibly have discontinued the line. With the unfortunate closing of Stuttafords I was worried that it would be no longer available in SA. Luckily I have found Muse Beauty online store and they stock The Balm Mary Lou Manizer at a very reasonable price. You can click here to go to their website.
What did I think? I think it was clear from the introduction that I love this product. I own many other highlighters, but this one stole my heart a long time ago. With the exception of MAC’s Oh Darling which was a limited edition, I rarely reach for any of my other highlighting products. As the pan size is generous is also lasts a really long time and I therefor find it the best value for money if you are looking for a natural, subtle highlighter.
Will I buy this product again? Definitely!
