So it is the end of October! We have the most amazing Christmas decoration pop-up stores everywhere, the trees are fully dressed in autumn colors and the days are rapidly getting shorter. As I am mostly still at home I haven’t really been wearing makeup and therefor my October favorites are more focused on skincare.
I am still struggling with my skin, with some of the worst breakouts I have ever experienced. I am hoping my skin will calm down soon, I don’t know about you, but it really affects my self-confidence. No matter how smartly you cover it up, you just cannot hide texture and bumpiness with concealer. I am feeling very sad about my skin as it was so good for nearly a year before I came to the Netherlands.
The air is extremely dry and cold at the moment. Add to this the exposure to (essential) indoor heating and you can understand why my skin went from combination oily to dry and dehydrated in only a few weeks. My usual routine of Neostrata Bio Hydrating cream was not quite cutting it and as I am not able to order anything more nourishing from Neostrata at the moment so I had to make a plan with what I have available. What did I use?
- I gently exfoliate my skin every morning with the DermaFix DermaPolish Enzymatic Exfoliator in a desperate attempt to speed up cell turn over. This will hopefully have a positive effect on my breakouts although I am careful not to over-exfoliate and cause more problems. I have done a full review on this product which you can read here.
- After rinsing and drying my skin I immediately apply the SkinCeuticals Triple Lipid Restore cream. This product has been a firm favorite this month. The SkinCeuticals Triple Lipid Restore cream works magic on very dry and mature skin. This fast-absorbing, light weight lipid-rich cream aims to restore the lipid protective barrier of your skin which results in less moisture evaporation. It is absolutely brilliant and I am slightly panicky that I am almost through my sample stash! The price tag on this magical cream is sadly very steep – it retails for R2445 for 48ml.
- After removing makeup I wash my skin with Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cleanser. I have written about this product numerous times. I have mentioned before that I am not a particular fan of cream cleansers, although give the current state of my skin, it might be a more sound choice. Despite my dryness and dehydration I still enjoy using the Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cleanser. It works effectively at removing makeup and impurities and doesn’t aggravate my skin issues at the moment. My skin doesn’t feel dryer that normal or tight after use.
- I concocted a night cream by mixing Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Moisturizer with the magical Skin Creamery Hydrating Facial Oil. The two products mix well together and provides amazing hydration to my thirsty skin. My skin feels soft and supple in the morning and has definitely made a difference in managing this dryness and dehydration. I wrote a more comprehensive review on the Skin Creamery Hydrating Facial Oil here.
Ok, this is it for my October Favorites. Have a lovely November! xx
