I had to wait for a monster breakout in order to show you guys how well the NYX Green Concealer works (Full name: NYX HD Photogenic Concealer in the shade CW12-Green). I am of course slightly embarrassed to post the demonstration pictures, but for the love of beauty I will do it. Buries face in hands. Let’s have a look at the review and demonstration.
PS: there are no filters on the pictures, please excuse my hair all over my face and I am only wearing one single layer of Estée Lauder Double-Wear Stay-in-Place foundation in the fourth picture, no additional concealer was used.
NYX Green Concealer
Product: The NYX Green Concealer is a color correcting concealer aimed at neutralizing redness prior to foundation application. This concealer can be used on any red areas or inflamed blemishes on your skin.
Packaging: The concealer is packaged in a good quality plastic vial with a tapered doe-foot applicator. As a general rule-of-thumb I don’t use the applicator to apply the product directly onto blemishes. In my opinion I feel that the applicator might come into contact with bacteria when used directly on the breakout and contaminate the product as a result. I apply the product to the back of my hand and use a brush to dab it onto the areas where I need concealing.
Pigmentation: The NYX Green Concealer is insanely pigmented and a little really goes a long way!
Consistency: The concealer has a thick, creamy consistency that is quite opaque. I blend it out with a damp Beauty Blender and the product will change from an intense green color to a lighter gray-ish hue as seen in the step-by-step pictures above.
How to use: Firstly your skin must be clean and moisturized. If you want to use a primer, do so before applying the concealer. Dab the concealer onto the areas where you need to conceal redness. Blend it out slightly with a damp beauty sponge. You will see now that the red areas have a gray appearance, don’t be concerned about it as it will be masked once you apply your foundation. Lastly you will apply your foundation over the concealer. I find it works the best if you apply your foundation with a beauty sponge, it really does give the best finish.
Wear: I was initially worried that the concealer will move around or rub off when you apply your foundation. Luckily it doesn’t seem to be the case and it stays put under the foundation. I have no complaints about the wearing time as it wears well throughout the day.
Price: €7.30/R120. NYX is available in South Africa at Clicks Pharmacies. You can also click here to order it online.
What did I think? I am really impressed with the NYX Green Concealer. As you can see in the demonstration above it makes a visible difference to neutralize redness and the overall appearance of your foundation. In all honesty, I would not have been able to hide that amount of redness with foundation alone. I sometimes blend it out on my cheeks as well if they are particularly red. No concealer can hide texture or bumps, but the NYX Green Concealer at least significantly reduces the red, inflamed appearance of blemishes. I am very happy with the finish and the wearing time that I get out of this product. I have seen a few reviews where users complained of breakouts when they used the product. To date I cannot say that I have experienced any breakouts due to the sole use of this concealer, but as mentioned above, I am very strict with not letting the applicator come into direct contact with active blemishes.
Will I buy this product again? I don’t think I will finish this tube anytime soon as I only use it when I have redness or breakouts, but when I do finish it I will definitely purchase it again.
