I have seen a lot of questions on social media recently regarding the best eye cream to use. As there is no one-size-fits-all rule when it comes to eye creams and different approaches will work for different people, I decided to share what my long-time holy grail eye treatment is. I often test new eye care products but nothing that I have personally tried thus far could compare to the Neostrata Intensive Eye Therapy.
Neostrata Intensive Eye Therapy
Product: The Neostrata Intensive Eye Therapy is part of Neostrata’s Skin Active range. The aim of the product is to correct visible signs of aging and prevent future damage. It also lifts, firms and hydrate the delicate under-eye area.
Ingredients: I rarely go into detail about ingredients on my blog, but today I want to share a breakdown of the Neostrata Intensive Eye Therapy’s active ingredients. Once you understand what goes into this product it explains why it works so brilliantly.
- NeoGlucosamine: this is the star ingredient of this product as it increases natural cell turnover thus boosting collagen production and maintaining/reinforcing the existing collagen. Not only does it support your skin’s collagen like a pro, it also inhibits melanin production responsible for skin discoloration and pigmentation.
- Peptides: works in harmony with the NeoGlucosamine to target collagen preservation.
- Apple Stem Cell Extract: protects the longevity of the skin cells, i.e keep them younger for longer.
- Hyaluronic Acid: this is another magic ingredient known for retaining water and plumping up skin cells.
- Caffeine: it’s like morning coffee for your under-eyes. Caffeine deflate puffiness for a more refreshed appearance.
- Vitamin E: provides anti-oxidant benefits.
Packaging: With a potent formula like this you need proper packaging to ensure the benefits are not lost when it comes into contact with air and light. Neostrata has thus packaged the product in an airtight, completely opaque bottle with a good quality pump mechanism. I find it easy to dispense the right amount as the pump is not overly active.
Consistency: The Neostrata Intensive Eye Therapy is an almost serum-like gel that glides easily on the skin and is rapidly absorbed.
How to use: It is recommended that when you start using the Neostrata Intensive Eye Therapy for the first time to build usage up gradually over two weeks by using once a day. After two weeks you can up your usage to morning and night. This approach is recommended as it is quite a strong formula. Neostrata advised that you can experience a slight tingling or warming sensation on application. I have never experienced any irritation or discomfort from the product at all. The product is also ophthalmologically tested.
Price: R1010/€65 for 15ml. I realize this is not the cheapest product on the market, however, I would rather pay R1000 for something that works than paying R250 for something that does not yield sustainable results. As you only use the tiniest amount, it lasts long and makes the price justifiable for me.
Stockists: In South Africa I always ordered from Skin Miles, they have excellent service. You can click here to order. In the Netherlands I order my supply from Farmaline, you can click here to be directed.
What did I think? You all know I am a die-hard Neostrata fan! I am making no secret of it, but for very good reason. They have outstanding products that are not insanely overpriced. In my experience with all Neostrata’s products I have tried and use: it does what it says on the tin. And no, I am not sponsored to say this 😉 The Neostrata Intensive Eye Therapy is the most brilliant eye cream I have ever used.
The hyaluronic acid visibly plumps up the skin and makes fine lines disappear. The effect doesn’t really wear off during the day and it provides an excellent canvas for eye makeup and under eye concealer. My biggest gripe with eye creams in general is that it is nearly always a disaster with mascara-usage in terms of flaking, smudging and having panda eyes by 10am. This is not the case with the Neostrata Intensive Eye Therapy. My makeup and my tried-and-tested mascaras remain perfectly in tact throughout the day and I have not been let down once. I often use this as a guideline for testing new mascaras: if I used the Neostrata Intensive Eye Therapy and a new mascara flakes and smudges, then I know at least it is not because of the eye cream.
I think for my age I have very little wrinkles and lines around my eyes and for that I am thanking Neostrata. I have struggled with severe dehydration in my under-eye area and as a result fine lines until I introduced this product. So, as I am sure you can gather: I am a huge fan! Of course the true long term benefits will only be seen when I am much older, but for now I am happy to invest in this product to give my skin the best chance.
Will I buy this product again? A definite, absolute, without any doubt yes! I have purchased it many times before and will continue to invest in this little pot (not an actual pot, the packaging is way to smart for that! But you get my point) of magic. You will not regret investing in this product.
