I am sure you have all seen or heard about LOV cosmetics: the beautiful higher-end sister of Catrice and Essence that launched in South Africa earlier in the year. I haven’t tried nearly enough of the LOV-range yet, but so far I have been majorly impressed with the luxury packaging of all of the products I have tried. I had a look at their international website as well and boy, they’ve got some stunning products!
I received the LOV The Forbidden Dramatic Volume Mascara as part of a press drop to introduce the brand. I have been testing so many products of late that I have only gotten around now to write my review for this mascara. So let’s have a look!
LOV The Forbidden Dramatic Volume Mascara
Product: According to the website the LOV The Forbidden Dramatic Volume Mascara is a one stroke volume mascara to create full dramatic lashes with loads of volume. PS: click here to have a look at the rest of their beautiful collection.
Packaging and Brush: How beautiful is the packaging of the mascara? The packaging is classy, elegant and of good quality. The brush is large and has dense fibers in a hourglass-shape. I must admit I struggled a little bit with the brush. The brush is quite bulky and the thinned-down middle section makes it more difficult to coat all the lashes evenly and not miss sections of your lashes. I am not sure what the purpose of this specific shape was, but in my personal opinion I think a different brush-head would have enhanced the user-experience so much more.
Formula: The consistency of the LOV The Forbidden Dramatic Volume Mascara is the perfect balance between wet and dry. It’s not too runny and not to dry either. I really enjoyed this formula. It coats the lashes well and dries down quickly without becoming clumpy.
Pigmentation: The formula of this mascara is jet black and highly pigmented.
Effect: I had some application issues due to the shape brush and thus couldn’t quite get the volume I was hoping for. As the brush is large and slims down towards the middle I kept missing some of my lashes and it was difficult not to get some product on my skin as I was trying to reach the finer lashes in the corners. The volume was still very good, although not as dramatic as anticipated, especially with only one coat. The formula builds well without becoming spidery or clumpy.
Wear: I was impressed by how well the LOV The Forbidden Dramatic Volume Mascara wore. It dries quickly and I didn’t experience any significant fall-out or flaking. The mascara is also easy to remove with ordinary makeup remover.
Stockist: Available at selected Dischem Pharmacies.
What did I think? I think if it wasn’t for the brush then I would have given the LOV The Forbidden Dramatic Volume Mascara a better score. I honestly think you can get so much more from this mascara with a different brush design. This is only my personal experience though, I am sure there are users that have no issues with the brush. The formula of the mascara is fantastic, it doesn’t clump and it wears so well throughout the day.
Will I buy this product again? This is a difficult question for me. There are aspects of this product that I really like and then others that I don’t. So I am going to have to say that I am on the fence about this one. I am however very keen to try some of LOV’s other mascaras as I am sure they have some gems that I have just not discovered yet.
