The L’Oréal Lash Paradise Mascara is probably the most raved-about mascara for 2017 and rightfully so! I want to point out that you might have notice the names and packaging between the US and EU/UK versions are different. I contacted L’Oréal Europe about this difference and they informed me that the names and packaging had to be adapted for the EU/UK as there were a conflict with another product and thus had to be changed for legal reasons. They assured me that the formula is exactly the same and I fully agree as I have both the US and EU versions and they are indeed exactly the same.
So without any further ado, let’s jump into the review!
L’Oréal Lash Paradise Mascara
Packaging: Both the US and EU/UK versions of the L’Oréal Lash Paradise Mascara have absolutely gorgeous packaging! The US option is more pink with a strong resemblance to the Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara’s packaging, whereas the EU/UK tube is a beautiful rose gold and my favourite of the two. It has a slim, elegant, good quality tube and looks way more expensive than just the drugstore mascara it is.
Formula: I find the formula of the L’Oréal Lash Paradise Mascara quite interesting. It has a thicker, slightly drier formula and the product definitely dries out a little quicker than some of my other mascaras once you start using it. Despite the thickening as the product ages, it doesn’t make it any more difficult to apply or cause clumping etc. on your lashes.
Brush: The brush took a bit of getting used to as it is more bulky and dense than the slimmer, plastic-bristled brushes we are used to nowadays. You will get used to it very quickly though and then it is an absolute pleasure to use, reaching even the smallest lashes in the corners. The brush is identical to the Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara’s brush.
Effect: Oh man! It literally blew my hair back when I used this mascara for the first time about 6-weeks ago! I was completely speechless and stared with a blank expression on my face at the incredible lashes in the mirror. The L’Oréal Lash Paradise Mascara gives the most incredible volume, separation and length and really does give the impression of false lashes. No kidding! I have never experienced this level of volume and length from any other mascara I have ever used before. It is insane! Surprisingly it doesn’t hold a curl all too well and I am curious to see if the waterproof version performs better in the curl department. Just a word of warning: the product dries very quickly when applied to the lashes and can clump-up a bit with multiple layers. In all honestly though, one coat is more than adequate to create the full effect and I never apply more than two quick consecutive coats if I am in the mood for bolder lashes.
Wear: I loved it on that first day and I have not used any other mascara since! The L’Oréal Lash Paradise Mascara last so well during the day, on the top and bottom lashes. There is zero fallout, zero smudging, zero transfer and it just looks fresh and magical all day irrespective of the weather conditions. Even though I am just using the normal version at the moment, it is surprisingly water-resistant to a degree and tolerate saunas, quick swims and humid conditions well. I am a contact lens wearer and I have never experienced any form of irritation from this mascara. I find it relatively easy to remove at the end of the day – I either use Garnier’s Micellar Cleansing Water or Clinique’s Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm.
Is it available in SA? The L’Oréal Lash Paradise Mascara is unfortunately not available in SA yet and I have been getting conflicting information as to when and if it will launch in South Africa as well. I sure hope it does as this really is a mascara that I think so many readers will love and enjoy.
What did I think? I am besotted with it! It is the most brilliant mascara I have ever used and for once the hype is completely deserved and real. If you can get a beauty mule to send you one from overseas, grab the opportunity. You will not regret it! I have seen a lot of rumours flying around that the L’Oréal Lash Paradise Mascara is a dupe for the significantly more expensive Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara, but I can unfortunately not comment as I have never tried the Too Faced mascara before.
Will I buy this product again? Yes, a thousand times yes! I stocked up properly while on holiday in the US as it is significantly cheaper, so I am good for a long time. I also purchased the waterproof version – let me know in the comments if you are keen for a review.
