Let’s be honest, we are all suckers for a mascara that promises a false lash effect. Including me – I am the biggest sucker of all! A friend of mine gave me the L’Oréal False Lash Superstar X-Fiber Mascara to try as she was having difficulties with hers and had an extra one on hand. I have seen some mixed reviews on this mascara, but was keen to try it of course. So how did it work out for me? Let’s have a look.
L’Oréal False Lash Superstar X-Fiber Mascara
Product: The L’Oréal False Lash Superstar X-Fiber Mascara is a dual-ended mascara that utilises fibres to build additional length and volume to your lashes to create a false lash effect. Step-1 is a volumising black primer and step-2 adds the fibres to elongate your lashes.
Packaging: I think the packaging is really pretty and of good, sturdy quality.
Brush: Step-1 has a skinny brush with dense fibres which I found really easy to work with and no trouble at all to coat even the tiniest lashes. Step-2 has a curved brush that is easy to use as well. I really have no criticism in the brush department.
Formula: Step-1 of the L’Oréal False Lash Superstar X-Fiber Mascara is the black ‘primer’ step. The formula is wet, but not runny at all. It is quite black and add some mild volume to the lashes. Step-2 is the fibre side of the mascara and obviously drier than step-1.
Effect: Step-1 is actually quite nice and I can easily wear it as is for an understated daytime look. The Step-2 fibre formula is suppose to build the length and volume but to be honest: for me it does absolutely nothing. I was grossly underwhelmed by the ‘false lash’ effect as there seriously wasn’t any.
Wear: I had significant fallout and looked like I have been punched in less than an hour from application. I wear it on multiple occasions, changing my eye cream, not wearing any eye cream, wearing my glasses instead of contact lenses and it was the same story every time. I have read some reviews online and it seems to be a hit and miss. Some users don’t get any fallout and absolutely love it or have major issues soon after application like in my case.
What did I think? On a good day I am not the biggest fan of fibre mascaras. Some create really amazing volume and length, but I always have problems with either fallout or itchy eyes. In this case my eyes really didn’t itch at all and kudos to L’Oréal for that, but the fallout was just a total deal breaker. I was not blown away by the ‘false lash’ effect (or rather lack thereof) of the L’Oréal False Lash Superstar X-Fiber Mascara and definitely not by the wear. As mentioned above there are users that swears by this mascara and some like me that really is not into it at all. So I think it is pretty much a case of it is either going to work for you or it is not going to work – you only need to decide if you are willing to take the risk. I would rather recommend the L’Oréal Lash Paradise mascara, it is absolutely brilliant! You can read my full review here.
Will I buy this product again? Unfortunately it is a ‘no’ from me.
