Januworry is finally over! Hopefully everyone has experienced the joy of payday by now and we can move on to a better February Before digging into my January Favorites I just want to give you guys a quick update on my Back To Banting series. As much as I am disappointed to do it and it is way TMI, I need to temporarily halt my Back to Banting series. There will not be a week 4 and 5 update for two reasons:
a) I cringe a little in saying this, but Aunt Flo came to visit as of Saturday…I am very familiar with my extreme water retention whenever I have my period and I normally ‘gain’ 4-5kg purely in water that will magically disappear the day after my period ended. This has been going on for years, so it is nothing out of the ordinary for me and I am sure a lot of you will nod your heads in agreement. So I weighed myself out of curiosity and it shot up to nearly 78kg. So you can see the results will be completely rigged as I know by Wednesday it will go down to my normal weight. For me it is pretty pointless to record inaccurate week 4 results due to a physiological (unwanted!) function as I know from experience is not real weight/fat gain. I might to do weigh-in and measurements on Wednesday or Thursday once the water weight has gone down.
b) We are so excited for our very first ski-holiday with some of our South African friends at the end of this week! Jean and I have been practicing a lot to get our ski-abilities to an acceptable level, literally spending every spare moment on the ski-slopes nearby and we are very much looking forward to this holiday. So due to me being away and nowhere near a computer I will not be able to publish a Banting update next Monday. I will hopefully resume the series as normal from the week after. My goal still is to shed most of this weight by April, so despite the hiatus for the next two weeks I am not planning on pigging out. I can assure you I have not deviated or cheated once and I am trying my best to keep up with a healthy exercise plan. I am pretty sure I won’t be able to eat strictly LCHF next week when we are on holiday (it is a holiday afterall!), but I am not concerned about it as we will be very active. I am considering an egg-fast for when I am back, just to kickstart ketosis again! I can manage two eggs for breakfast in the morning (I wouldn’t say I love eggs), but three days of nothing but eggs and a little cheese sounds intimidating. But I am pretty sure I am going to need it and it appears to yield favorable results, so I am sure I can suffer it out.
Ok, now that we have that out of the way, let’s jump into my January Favorites!
H&M Infinite Impact Eye Colour (€6/R90)
I love watching Harry Makes It Up’s YouTube tutorials and I have come to trust her recommendations over time. In one of her ‘one brand impressions’ videos she covered H&M beauty and highly recommended the brand’s liquid eyeliners and single eyeshadows. When in H&M a few months ago curiosity got the better of me and I bought a few eyeshadow shades just to try it out. The range has matte, satin sheen and shimmery/glittery shadows so there really is something for everyone. I bought one of each and I must admit Harriet was not wrong. These shadows are amazingly pigmented, has a buttery formula, very little to no fall-out, ultra blendable, long-lasting with or without an eyeshadow base and have I mentioned affordable too? The quality of these shadows are completely superior to some very famous, high-end palettes that we all starved for a month to afford, end up not using half of the shades and that is now gathering dust in my drawer. It just shows you, you don’t have to break the bank to have quality eyeshadows. The shade range is really good with easily 30-40 shades to choose from. I know that H&M beauty is not available in SA yet, but if you can twist a beauty-mule’s arm you will not regret it.
Lush Lord Of Misrule Showergel (From €8.50/R85)
Are you also like me that rushes to Lush whenever the Christmas collection comes out? I have only once made the mistake of not stocking up on Rose Jam. I was still new to Lush and did not know it was a limited Christmas edition. So I made sure that this never happened again. I can now add Lord Of Misrule to that ‘stock-up-while-you-can’ list as I fell in love with it last year. I really love the fragrance of this severely green liquid (the green foam freaks Jean out, haha) and I am happy to report that to date I haven’t experienced any itching on my skin. Luckily I stocked up properly on the 50% off post-Christmas sale, so I am good for a while.
Essence Matt Matt Matt Lipstick (€2.40/R47)
I really loved this affordable lipstick during January! I bought the shade 03 which is a rosy, nude color and will suit many skintones. It is the perfect shade for work or just going out for a quick run to the shops. I really like the fresh berry scent, a welcoming fragrance change to the usual vanilla scent that is so popular. The lipstick is pigmented, creamy, long-lasting, moisturizing with a medium matte finish. These lipsticks are affordable and definitely worth putting on your Dischem list.
Milani Baked Blush in Luminoso (€10)
I know it is probably not fair to put the Milani Baked Blush in Luminoso as a January Favorites as: a) this blush is not readily available outside of the US and b) even if you have a mule coming from the US this particular shade is nearly always sold out. I was lucky to get my hands on this blush a few years ago and funny enough I rarely used it. I was put off by the heavy pigmentation and the shimmery finish as I am not a fan of sparkly blushes. I didn’t want to be that person that you just want to grab in the queue at Woolies and blend their blush to a more subtle level (just me? No?). I grew a bit bored with my blushes and dug it our of the drawer a few weeks ago. When applied with a light hand and blended well with a good quality brush it gives such a healthy flush of peachy color and it has become the only blush I reached for during January. The shimmery bits almost disappears when blended on the skin and I can assure you there will not be any chunky glitters on your cheeks. I get the hype with Luminoso now and can highly recommend to put on your wish list. PS: I surprisingly found an online store in the Netherlands that stock Milani products, you can click here if interested.
Redken Beach Envy Volume Shampoo (€14/R275)
In my never-ending quest for a shampoo to get some volume in my fine, flat hair I came across the Redken Beach Eny Volume shampoo. I am going to do a full review on these shampoos, but I can tell you that once I figured out how to use this shampoo I finally have a shampoo that gives me volume and texture. Be sure to keep an eye out for that post.
Allrighty, this is a wrap for my January Favorites. Happy February, everyone! xx
