Happy 2017, everyone! It still feels a bit odd to think we are in a new year already. My memory of January is normally a hot, humid, crazy busy month that I wouldn’t say was a particular favorite. January traditionally was our busiest month in the health industry and I remember it as a very stressful month. Now, instead of running around with two phones to the ear doing crisis management, I am wrapped up in cosy loungewear with a steaming cup of coffee writing my first blogpost of 2017. I woke up this morning with my husband screaming like a girl – initially I though one of my cats passed judging by the loud screams. Turns out it started to snow during the night and our whole town is covered in a thick, white blanket. There is just something truly magical about snow!
This post will just be a general catch-up post before we kick off the new year with reviews etc. Did you make new years resolutions? I don’t make new years resolutions in general – I am not really sure why. Perhaps the fear of failure? Despite this I think there is value in new years resolutions. One of my friends typed her resolutions out last year and kept track throughout the year. I really admire this and it made me think twice about perhaps making an informal list of my own. One thing I need to do irrespective of the new year is get a grip on my eating habits. I bought a scale recently…. I picked up 8kg in the four months that I have been here. 8kg! It’s like the ‘freshman-15’ all over again. This rapid weight-gain just confirms that I am completely carbohydrate resistant and I really cannot deviate from my Banting lifestyle. Another change that I believe had a big effect is that I completely stopped exercising. I went to the gym four times a week and did minimum two 10km’s per week back in SA – now I am confined to the couch. This is clearly not working out well! In order to keep myself accountable I will do a weekly blogpost on my weight and measurements, what I ate and how much I exercised. The first post will go up towards the end of the week.
I applied for a job this morning. I don’t know if anything will come of it seeing that it is a bit more difficult to find a job as an expat (citizens always get preference) but I thought I will put myself out there so long. As much as I really like staying at home and I am technically not keen at all to throw myself back in the stressful situation of starting a new job, I know it is the better decision. I am becoming isolated at home, have minimal interaction and from a personal growth point of view I just don’t think it is ideal for me. I think it is different if you have children or have a solid social network – neither of which I have. I just don’t think I will be able to integrate properly into the society from the couch. So I will keep you guys posted. I am not hard-up for a job, but let’s see what happens.
We came back from our Germany road trip a few days ago. Oh, how I loved it! We explored Trier, Strasbourgh (although technically just across the French border), Rothenburg and Cochem. Rothenburg is Germany’s official Christmas town and you cannot even begin to imagine the decorations and Christmas shops. I bought so many Christmas decorations at Käthe Wolhfarth – a famous Christmas decorations store. Magic, magic, magic! You can click here to have a look at the catalogues. Cochem also blew my mind. It’s a small, holiday town on the banks of the Mosel river with amazing views and a wonderful vibe. There is a real fairy tale castle in the middle of the town on a hill and it is lit at night – it will take your breathe away. I definitely want to come back to Cochem in summer – I think it is the perfect get away for a relaxing long weekend. Germany is just spectacular and exceeded all my expectations. A trip to Germany is without any doubt worth your hard-earned money, you can trust me on this. We are already planning a second Germany road trip – this time to explore the fairy tale route with all the castles and inspirations the Grimm brothers had when they wrote their fairy tales.
I have a lot of beauty reviews coming up this month including my Zoeva and Colourpop purchases. Can’t wait to starts testing! Be sure to keep an eye out for those!
Ok, I just wanted to check in and say ‘hi’ Have a lovely day and I wish you all a wonderful 2017! xx
