Hello and happy Friday!
I have a mega Essence Cosmetics first impression post up today! These are items I received in pressdrops from a few months ago but only got around to playing with it now. I really love Essence as a brand. Essence has wonderful products that are budget-friendly and they are constantly striving to bring us the latest trends at an affordable price. I have many Essence products in my permanent makeup collection and that is always the first shelf I go to when I am at the drugstore. Ok, this is quite a bumper issue so please make sure you are comfortable Please let me know in the comments what your Essence favorites are. I am always keen to try new products.
With first impression reviews it is important to remember that it is exactly what it is: a first impression. What I normally do if I am not immediately blown away by a product is to test it a few extra times with a different brush or primer for example before writing my impressions review. Everything deserves a second chance So these are not full in-depth reviews. If you would like more information or a full review on any product, feel free to let me know in the comments.
Essence Matt Matt Matt Lipstick
I did a full review on these amazing lipsticks on Monday. I bought two of the shades prior to receiving the pressdrop and was already so impressed with this product by the time I received the extra shade. I received the shade 02 in the presspack and I must say, it has fast become my favorite shade of the three I have. It is literally the most beautiful nude lipstick I’ve ever had. These lipsticks are beautifully pigmented, comfortable to wear, non-drying and lasts quite well given the creamy formula. You can read my full review here for more information.

Did I like this product? Absolutely yes!
Essence Matt Matt Matt Longlasting Lipgloss
I am always confused by the words ‘matte’ and ‘lipgloss’ in one sentence, but be that as it may, I actually quite liked the Matt Matt Longlasting Lipgloss. I was initially reserved as most matte products are streaky, drying and uncomfortable on my lips. I was however pleasantly surprised. The product has a very flat, fat doe-foot applicator but it is surprisingly easy to work with. The product is highly pigmented and one swipe is enough to give complete opacity and no streakiness. It dries fairly quickly and there is only minor transfer to cups, glasses, cutlery etc. The product is described as having a creamy mousse texture and I fully agree. To be honest, it is more a liquid lipstick than a lipgloss.

Did I like this product? Yes, I really liked it and I am going to buy one of the nude shades as well.
Essence 2-in-1 Lipstick & Liner
Ok, I find this to be a weird little product. I mean, the concept is good but I find the packaging oversized and bulky for the amount of product you get. It does not have a twist-up system, so what you see is what you get. It’s quite to damage the lipstick when taking the cap off, so be careful. Despite my gripes with the packaging I must admit it is quite an effective product and easy to work with. The sharp tip is good for lining the lips and the side fills the rest in quickly. The product is creamy and smooth and glides without effort onto the lips. Pigmentation is good and the particular product I received has a matte finish.

Did I like this product? I’m not sold on this lip product, to be honest. I think I am more put off by the packaging than anything else because the actual product is quite good.
Essence BB Beauty Balm Lipgloss
I am not the world’s biggest lipgloss fan. I hate the sticky feeling, when my hair sticks to my lips and that it only lasts for about 5-minutes. This particular balm/lipgloss from Essences is enriched with Vitamin E and Shea butter to nourish the lips while giving a dash of color. It has a strong strawberry scent that I am not personally a fan of and I find application straight out of the tube to be rather difficult. Like any lipgloss the shine is short-lived, but it does leave a beautiful stain behind that looks very natural and that I really liked. I should also mention that this lipgloss is not sticky at all.
Shades Available: 5
Did I like this product? I didn’t particularly like or dislike the product. I think I can more accurately say that I won’t be repurchasing this product again if this answers the question. This is more because I am not particularly fond of lipglosses.
Essence The False Lashes Dramatic Volume Mascara
I am absolutely in love with this mascara! It gives incredible volume and curl to the lashes. The formula is pigmented and makes the lashes an intense black. The brush has a skinny conic-shape and makes it so easy to reach all the lashes and get close to the roots. The formula is wet but not runny and dries quickly. It doesn’t transfer or smudge and is easy to remove.
Did I like this product? Yes! It’s a brilliant mascara and I will definitely purchase it again.
Essence Contouring Eye Pencil
I didn’t realize we are now contouring the eyes as well and to be honest the point of it all is a bit lost on me. It is basically a dual-ended pencil with a contour and highlighting part. I actually like the contour side of the pencil. The product is creamy and easy to apply to the lids and to be honest, I basically just used it as a cream eyeshadow. It doesn’t crease on the lids, is easy to blend and lasts well. I didn’t particularly like the highlighting pencil. It feels stiff and you really need to drag it on the skin to get some color pay-off.

Did I like this product? I didn’t particularly like the product and it is not something that I feel I will get use out of.
Essence Contouring Eyeshadow Set
Again, I am not sure why I should contour my eyes? Does one not anyway do it to a degree with any eyeshadow application? The lighter shade is quite all right and a nice neutral all-rounder to use. The darker shade is not very pigmented and has major fallout. It does have instructions on the back of the packaging, but it is nothing revolutionary: lid, crease, brow.
Shades Available: 4
Did I like this product? I fail a little to see the point and due to the fallout and poor pigmentation I will not be buying this product for myself.
Essence The Metals Eyeshadow
Now this little eyeshadow I actually liked. I am not a fan of the shade I received (02 Frozen Toffee which is a grey shade), but there is a rosegold shade in the collection that I have my eye on. The finish of the eyeshadow is definitely shimmery/metallic but it doesn’t give you a foiled look. I like the formula: it’s soft and buttery and easy to work with. I find it is best to apply an eyeshadow primer first to get the maximum color pay-off. There is very little fallout on application and it lasts well during the day. In my experience you are better off to apply the product with your fingers. I have tried it with a wet brush as well and the pigmentation and metallic look is definitely better, however, the product kind of ‘crumbles’ on the brush and makes application a bit more messy.

Did I like this product? I actually did. I didn’t love this specific shade, but I need to get my hands on the rosegold shade!
Essence Satin Touch Blush
Oh man, I LOVE this blush! I have not touched any of my other blushes since I got this one. I received the shade Satin Coral and it is just perfect for my skintone and summer. The blush is super pigmented so be careful of a heavy hand. It so soft and buttery and blends like a dream. The blush lasts the whole day on my skin and how beautiful is the embossing? The product does contain some extremely fine shimmers but it doesn’t show up as glittery once applied. There are three shades available in the collection: this beautiful coral, a rose shade and a more bronzy tone.

Did I like this product? I did not like the product, I LOVED it!
Essence Light Up Your Face Luminizer Palette
Another big LOVE! This luminizer palette has three shades: a nude highlighter with a beautiful subtle glow, a rosé highlighter that is a bit more shimmery and lastly a golden beige shade that I think will be perfect for medium to darker skintones. I normally mix the two lighter shades and I simply love the beautiful, gorgeous, subtle, natural, healthy glow! As you can see I am quite excited about this product! In fact, I ditched Mary-Lou and instead took this little gem with on our Nice trip. It’s not a blinding Nikkie-Tutorials-level highlighter, it’s way more subtle and natural and that’s exactly why I love it so much.
Did I like this product? Uhm, yes!!!
Essence Get Picture Ready Brightening Concealer
You all know I have a bit of a thing for concealers. So naturally I was excited to try this one from Essence but I unfortunately didn’t quite enjoy it as much as I hoped. There are a few things about this concealer that I didn’t particularly liked. Let’s start with the spongy applicator: honestly I am not sure what you are supposed to do with it. The sponge is hard and the shape makes it awkward to work with. Having said that, it does have a really smart pin in the cap to keep the dispensing hole open. Secondly, according to Essence this concealer has high coverage. It does not. Not even close. At most I would say it’s light to mild coverage. I also found that you need to blend this concealer out with a beauty blender as using a brush or your fingers just make the product disappear. Once applied it does illuminate your under-eye area slightly but I wouldn’t classify this as a brightening concealer. On a positive note, it does feel comfortable on the skin, it looks natural and doesn’t settle into the creases and fine lines.
Shades Available: 2
Did I like this product? I wouldn’t say I hated it, but I also didn’t love it either. In my personal opinion I feel their camouflage full cover concealer is significantly better. I will do a review on that concealer soon.
Essence Get Picture Ready Longlasting Compact Makeup
Now this product did not work for me at all. Initially I thought I am not using it correctly but then I did an informal poll on social media to test the waters and not one person that commented loved this foundation. Granted, I’ve never been a fan of compact foundations. I really struggled to apply this foundation. Initially I couldn’t get any coverage on my skin and it was only after I scraped off the ‘film’ on top of the foundation that I could get a decent amount of product on my application tools. I tried everything: beauty blenders, fingers, flat foundation brushes, flat top Kabuki brushes, buffing brushes and I still cannot tell you which tool works the best for this foundation for it not to end up patchy and uneven. I will give it credit, the coverage is quite good (once you scrape the film off the product is very creamy and quite thick) but is settles heavily into my pores and fine lines. The finish was very cakey and almost mask-like in my opinion which I did not enjoy.
Shades Available: 4
Did I like the product? No, I did not.
Essence Camouflage 2-in-1 Makeup and Concealer
Now this foundation I actually liked and enjoyed using. The foundation has a smooth, creamy texture and easily blends to a beautiful finish. It is definitely not full coverage but rather a very decent medium cover. I found that a Beauty Blender does not pair well with this foundation – the coverage is very light if you use a beauty sponge. A buffing brush however works like a charm. The foundation lasts very well throughout the day and doesn’t settle into fine lines and pores. I also didn’t experience any oiliness with this product. The shade range is unfortunately a bit limited.
Shades Available: 3
Did I like this product? Yes, I think it is very good value for money and really an awesome foundation considering the price.
Kudos to those that are still reading! It was a super long post. I hope you enjoyed it As you can see there are always hits and misses but I discovered some major gems through this presspack. Let me know in the comments below if you would like to see a more in-dept feature on any of these product or if you have any recommendations for me to try.
