I am going to be very honest and say that I was skeptical when I read all the rave reviews and praise for the Essence Camouflage Full Coverage Concealer. I tried two of Essence’s concealers before: Stay All Day 16hr Long-Lasting concealer and the Get Picture Ready Brightening concealer. In both instances more was promised than it delivered and I was very disappointed with the minimal coverage despite the full coverage claims. I thought I was done with Essence concealers. On the other hand I am the biggest fan of the Catrice Liquid Camouflage Concealer (you can read my review here) and couldn’t understand why Essence struggles so much to get it right. As you all know I am a bit of a sucker for hyped-about products and I ended up buying the Essence Camouflage Full Coverage Concealer reluctantly out of pure curiosity. So, what did I think?
Essence Camouflage Full Coverage Concealer
Packaging: The packaging of the Essence Camouflage Full Coverage Concealer is practical, good quality and quite fun with the pop of color on the cap. It doesn’t look very expensive, but it gets the job done. This concealer has a medium-sized tapered doe-foot applicator which is easy to work with.
Formula: This concealer has a creamy liquid formula which is easy to apply and blends very well.
Application: My beauty tool of choice to use with this product is a dampened Beauty Blender to get the best coverage and smoothest finish in the shortest time. Fingers and brushes works well too if that is your preference.
Coverage: When I test any concealer I am very tough on how it performs in terms of: a) coverage and b) creasing. If the said product does not satisfy me on both the criteria then it goes straight to the bin. I was previously highly disappointed with the coverage of all the Essence concealers I tried before, so this was the first hurdle for the Essence Camouflage Full Coverage Concealer to get over. Did it? I am pleased to say that I was blown away by the amazing pigmentation and the excellent coverage of this concealer. You can easily achieve medium to full coverage with minimal effort and I really have to give Essence credit for delivering on their ‘full coverage’ promise.
Wear: As mentioned above the second hurdle to get over is creasing. As much as I know it is not always possible to get away without a setting powder, I am instantly negative about a concealer if I have no choice but to set it. There are few things I hate more that those dry, cakey under-eyes after using a setting powder. I was pretty sure I will have to use a setting powder as the formula is so creamy, but to my surprise it was not necessary! It sets fairly quickly after application and I could wear it the whole day without any significant creasing or the product drying my skin out.
I have to mention that I prefer to use this concealer without any additional foundation under my eyes as I feel the coverage is enough to conceal dark circles etc. In general I rarely use foundation and then concealer on top under my eyes as for me personally it is a fool-proof recipe for creasing. If however you struggle with really bad dark circles that need a lot of coverage, I think you will be better off to then set this concealer if you used it over your foundation.
Shades: Essence, Essence, Essence, please bring out more shades! There are only two shades available at the moment: porcelain and ivory which are nearly identical anyway, thus severely limiting the amount of consumers that would have enjoyed using this product.
What did I think? I think you could gather that I am really excited about the Essence Camouflage Full Coverage Concealer and was very pleased that I wrongfully doubted it. I feel this product delivered on its promises and has definitely changed my mind about Essence’s concealers.
Will I buy this product again? You know what? My faith in Essence concealers has been restored and I will actually buy it again.
