I am not even going to keep you in suspense! The Clinique High Impact Extreme Volume Mascara has blown me out of the water. I bought this mascara about a year ago after I saw it on Sarah from Mascara and Mimosas blog’s amazing lashes and just had to know what she was using. As I try to keep up with reviewing all the mascaras we receive in pressdrops I completely forgot that I bought this mascara. A few weeks ago I felt like a change from my current mascaras and decided it’s time to scratch in the unopened mascara drawer. So let’s look at the full review:
What Clinique says: “With every stroke, the over-the-top brush wraps lashes in instant, jaw-dropping drama. This larger-than-life formula is also safe for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers. Ophthalmologist tested, too.”
The Formula: The formula of the Clinique High Impact Extreme Volume Mascara is quite wet and although I am not particularly crazy about very wet formulas I didn’t experience any difficulty with smudging or the lashes clumping together.
The Wand: This mascara has an elongated plastic wand with multiple fine bristles designed to coat every lash, even the small, hard to reach ones. I find the brush easy and effective to work with. It separates the lashes beautifully and gives the impression that you have a million lashes.
Pigmentation: I was actually a bit taken aback when I saw how intense the pigmentation of this mascara is. To be honest: if you see ‘extreme black’ on the packaging the skeptical voice in my head immediately sounds: ‘Isn’t black just black?’ Wrong! This formula is indeed extremely black, definitely the blackest mascara I have ever used.
Volume: I am very pleased with the volume the Clinique High Impact Extreme Volume Mascara delivers. Even just one coat is more than enough to create impressive volume and definition.
Length: I wouldn’t say this mascara builds length to the extreme of the volume that it creates, but as I have long lashes it honestly doesn’t bother me. The volume and definition effect is so impressive that I don’t even give a second thought to length.
Wear: I am so happy with how well the Clinique High Impact Extreme Volume Mascara wears. I don’t experience any fallout, transfer or smudging on the upper or lower lashes. The mascara removes easily with ordinary makeup remover. Man, I am seriously impressed with this mascara!
Price: R345, available online (click here) and from all Clinique counters.
Who will enjoy this mascara? I think this is an excellent all-rounder mascara and will keep most readers very happy. It provides striking volume and definition and if you have longer lashes you will definitely be sold on the spot! Due to its reliability I think this might even be a good choice for readers with oily lids that tends to battle with transfer and flaking.
Is the GOSH Boombastic XXL mascara an exact dupe for the Clinique High Impact Extreme Volume Mascara? The brush, formula and volume of the GOSH Boombastic XXL mascara is very similar, if not identical. However, the pigmentation cannot quite compare to the extreme black pigmentation of the Clinique mascara.I will definitely say it is a close dupe, but not quite 100%. I think the GOSH mascara retails in the order of R150-160 which definitely makes it an attractive alternative if you cannot quite warrant forking out R345 for a mascara. I wrote a mini-review about the GOSH Boombastic XXL mascara in my February favorites that you can read here.
Will I buy this product again? I will buy the Clinique High Impact Extreme Volume Mascara without even thinking about it! As beauty bloggers test a million mascaras our favorites change all the time, but I think it will take a serious contender to knock the Clinique High Impact Extreme Volume Mascara down from the podium position. Absolutely loved this mascara and it is simply fantastic! Ten thumbs-ups from me.
