I immediately picked up the Catrice Prime and Fine Nude Glow Primer a few months ago when it launched as part of Catrice’s new Spring/Summer 2017 collection. If you are a regular reader of my blog you will know that I adore Catrice’s Beautifying Primer (if you missed my review you can click here) for its ability to blur imperfections and add a healthy, natural glow to your skin. As a sufferer of dry skin and often a dull complexion as a result, I was thus immediately intrigued by this primer that promises me an instant luminous finish.
Catrice Prime and Fine Nude Glow Primer
Product: The Catrice Prime and Fine Nude Glow Primer is a liquid skin illuminator enriched with pomegranate oil that not only primes, but also gives your skin a healthy instant glow. The product can be used on its own to enhance your natural complexion or under makeup to give you a more dewy/fresh appearance.
Packaging: The product has the same practical and convenient packaging as all Catrice’s other primers in the Prime and Fine range. The tube is compact and perfect to pop in your makeup bag when travelling.
Formula: Although the second ingredient of the Catrice Prime and Fine Nude Glow Primer is the silicone component (i.e it technically contains a lot of silicone) I was surprised that the product doesn’t feel particularly silicon-y or ‘slippy’. It has the texture of a light-weight moisturizer and doesn’t feel ‘tacky’ when applied to the skin. The shimmer particles responsible for the luminous finish are almost undetectable and you will not see any glitters on your skin. It has a light beige tint (exactly the color of Benefit’s Porefessional), but it doesn’t add any color to your skin and blends to match your own skintone.
Effect: I was majorly impressed by the incredible luminosity and instant glow the primer adds to your skin. It looks so natural, beautiful and healthy. If you are fortunate to have good skin I would definitely recommend to use this primer on bare skin – it just gives it that extra radiance natural skin sometimes lack. In terms of pore-minimizing/blurring, I wasn’t exactly blown away as the primer doesn’t really mask pores or blur imperfections despite its high silicone content. To counteract this lack of pore-reduction I used Benefit’s Porefessional only in the areas where I needed it and it solved the problem. This combination gives you pore-reduction and an incredible glow, thus a win-win!
Wear: Upon application the glow is absolutely perfect and my skin was radiant, but to my surprise my T-zone became a bit oily by mid-day. To have a shinier forehead is highly unusual for me. It is not necessarily a problem per sé, but I had to blot my skin with powder on a few ridiculously hot days while I was testing it out. To be honest, eventhough this primer is part of the Spring/Summer collection I think I will use it more in winter when my skin is super-dry and I can really do with a bit of mid-day ‘oiliness’.
Suitable Skintypes: In my opinion the Catrice Prime and Fine Nude Glow Primer is more suitable for drier or even mature skin. It is likely that readers with oily or combination skin might find this primer too dewy and their T-zones to be more oily by mid-day than normal. If you do have oily skin though and have tried this primer I would absolutely love to know your thoughts. Please be so kind to leave a comment below.
Price: €4.60. *As far as I could gather it seems like this primer is not available in SA yet. As the summer/spring 2017 collections are likely to launch soon, I am sure it will roll out to the Catrice stockists in South Africa shortly.
What did I think? In my experience the Beautifying Primer makes a more visible difference in terms of softening enlarged pores and imperfections. I suppose the true purpose of the Nude Glow Primer is to give you glowy skin and a luminous finish and that it certainly does. You might argue that it is not ideal to have to use an additional primer to reduce the appearance of pores. While you are indeed right, I think it is important to remember that very few primers can fix pores, reduce oiliness, hydrate, give you a glow and everything you’ve ever wanted in one tube. Of course we want it all, but sadly we can’t have it all in one tube. The amazing glow that the Catrice Prime and Fine Nude Glow Primer provides is enough to not make me worry about adding just a primer to sort out my pores. If you are thus looking for a primer that does a great job at creating a beautiful glow and dewiness, then I would highly recommend this primer. As an added bonus it is also highly affordable too!
Will I buy this product again? I still prefer the Beautifying Primer to the Nude Glow Primer, but I would like to see what this primer does in winter. It might just become my favorite primer for the colder, drier months.
